Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate GCSE Core Subject Tutor to join our team at our alternative provision, The ReConnect Programme. This role will be carried out primarily at our Thurston site amongst our other specialist facilitators. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding in theory and practice of Core Subjects at a GCSE level and a commitment to educating children and possess the ability to communicate effectively with students of varying abilities and SEND. Sessions take place during school hours, and happen between 3–5 times per week, during term-time only.

Duties

• Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions to students, focusing on their individual learning needs and curriculum.

• Develop and implement customised lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles, abilities and SEND.

• Assist students in understanding complex concepts and improve their academic performance regarding your specialism.

• Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that promotes student engagement and confidence.

• Communicate regularly with the specialism coordinator regarding student progress, attendance and areas for improvement.

• Support behaviour through a relational, trauma-informed approach

• Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt teaching methods as necessary.

• Contribute to EHCP reviews, report writing and personalised provision planning.

• Collaborate with other educators and specialists to ensure comprehensive support for students with special educational needs.

Requirements

• Teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) or relevant tutoring experience

• Have a great depth of understanding of Core Curriculum Subjects at GCSE level - Maths, English and Science.

• Experience working with SEND students is desirable.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students and their families.

• Knowledge or experience in special education practices is highly desirable.

• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for educating children.

• Relevant qualifications in education or a related field would be advantageous.

• An Enhanced DBS check that has been carried out in the last 12 months, or a willingness to obtain one
