
construction tutor
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Construction Tutor to join our team on a self employed basis. Working primarily at our Thurston site amongst our other specialist facilitators. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding in theory and practice of various construction industry specialisms including Electrician, Brick Laying, Carpentry and a commitment to educating children and possess the ability to communicate effectively with students of varying abilities and SEND. Sessions take place during school hours, and happen between 3–5 times per week, during term-time only.
Duties

Plan and deliver high-quality construction sessions one-on-one or to small groups focusing on the learners individual learning needs. (e.g. basic carpentry, joinery, health & safety, use of tools).

Develop and implement customised lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles, abilities and SEND.

Assist students in understanding complex concepts and improve their academic performance regarding your specialism.

Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that promotes student engagement and confidence.

Communicate regularly with the specialism coordinator regarding student progress, attendance and areas for improvement.

Support behaviour through a relational, trauma-informed approach

Maintain accurate records of student progress and adapt teaching methods as necessary.

Contribute to EHCP reviews, report writing and personalised provision planning.

Collaborate with other educators and specialists to ensure comprehensive support for students with special educational needs.
Requirements

Have a great depth of understanding in theory and practice of various construction industry specialisms including (but not limited to): Electrician, Brick Laying, Carpentry, Plumbing

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students and their families.

Knowledge or experience in special education practices is highly desirable.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for educating children.

Relevant qualifications in education or a related field would be advantageous.
